Church to Buy Downtown Building

Houston’s First Baptist Church is under contract to acquire a 40,000-square-foot building at 1730 Jefferson, downtown. The transaction with seller Communications Workers of America/Local 6222 union is expected to close during the week of March 11, 2017. The sales price is undisclosed.

The building will help the church, which was represented by CBRE Michael Hassler, establish a stronger downtown presence. The seller is being represented by Eric Carter of Carter Law Firm.

First Baptist’s downtown parishioners attend services at 1010 Lamar, and meet at other times in Vine Street Studios. According to the church’s website, the new building will help extend its reach “with a building that meets the needs of our growing and diverse community.” The website goes on to say that with permanent space at 1730 Jefferson, the church will be “well-situated to meet the needs of a growing and diverse population in the heart of the city.”
