Church-Owned Property Site for New Downtown San Antonio Hotel
SMS-SAR Hospitality will first knock down the rectory building to make way for the 17-story Hotel Sul Fiume. The 203 foot hotel will dwarf St. Mary’s Catholic Church right next to it. The church was built in 1924 after a flood destroyed the original church built in 1856. The churches congregational has gotten smaller in recent years and they don’t need the extra land and building. The church will receive annual rent payments as the project moves along.

The 193-guestroom hotel will be built adjacent to the San Antonio River Walk. Sul Fiume means “on the water” in Italian. There are approximately 16 hotels on the River Walk. The River Walk is the number one tourist spot in Texas. It’s a 15-mile urban waterway also known as Paseo del Rio. Tucked quietly below street level and only steps away from the Alamo, it provides a serene and pleasant way to navigate the city. It’s the largest urban ecosystem in the nation.
