High-Tech Manufacturer Doubling Sugar Land Plant Size
A prominent Houston employer is expanding its factory in Sugar Land.
The Houston Business Journal reports the Sugar Land Office of Economic Development approved a 10-year, $2 million incentive package for Applied Optoelectronics Inc. (Nasdaq: AAOI) to occupy about 266,000 square feet in a manufacturing facility and add a new manufacturing line to its existing headquarters. The additional plant will be near its headquarters at 13139 Jess Pirtle Blvd., which occupies 139,450 square feet in the 1,000-acre Sugar Land Business Park.
As part of the incentive deal, AOI agrees to make a capital investment of nearly $80 million and create 500 new jobs over the next five years. Currently, the company employs 387 in Sugar Land.
AOI develops and manufactures advanced hybrid fiber-coaxial and optical networking products that power the internet, including lasers, components, modules and equipment. The new facility is expected to be completed by next summer.
