China’s HNA Group Sells San Francisco Tower for $300M

Northwood Investors acquired 123 Mission Street from China-based HNA Group Co. for a reported price of $300 million. Located in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood, the 29-story tower is situated at the southeast corner of Mission and Main Streets.

The Class A 339,000-square-foot property had been purchased by the Chinese conglomerate in August 2016 for $255 million, and was its first West Coast asset. The Skidmore, Owings and Merrill-designed 123 Mission Street was developed by Shorenstein Company in 1986.

Bloomberg reported that HNA has divested $6.7 billion worth of properties and stocks in 2018. The company also told creditors it plans to sell off roughly $16 billion worth of its global assets in the first half of 2018, in an effort to alleviate debt troubles.
