China Trainmaker Wants More After $1.3B Win
CRRC Corp., China’s only manufacturer of high-speed locomotives, is pursuing opportunities in other U.S. cities after winning a $1.3 billion rail-care contract from Chicago’s Transit Authority. The company from China is bidding on a Los Angeles subway project, and a double-deck train job in Philadelphia.
CRRC’s Vice President Yu Weiping indicated that the company would also like to obtain contracts in New York, citing the city as “a very good market for us in terms of rail transport and equipment.”
The Chicago Transit Authority ordered 846 rail cars from CCRC’s U.S. unit last month. The deal was CRRC’s second in the past 18 months. Last year, the Chinese government merged former trainmakers CSR Corp. and China CNR Corp., to form CRRC.
