Chicago Tops Midwest List for Tech Startups

Chicago once again topped the ranking of the best Midwest cities for startups, according to a new report from locally based venture capital firm M25. The Windy City has stayed atop M25’s rankings each of the four years the firm has published its annual report.

The top six cities in this year’s rankings remain unchanged from the year prior, the Chicago Business Journal reported. Following Chicago on M25’s list are Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, St. Louis and Ann Arbor. Rounding out the top 10 are No. 7 Columbus, No. 8 Madison, No. 9 Detroit and No. 10 Cincinnati.

Columbus and Detroit both rose in the rankings from 2019, due in part to sizable fundraisings by individual startups, while Madison and Cincinnati declined. M25 evaluates tech cities based on startup activity, access to resources and business climate.
