Chicago Selected for 2024 Democratic Convention

Chicago will host the 2024 Democratic National Convention, the Democratic National Committee announced Tuesday. The city beat out New York City and Atlanta for the August 19-22, 2024 event, which is expected to draw up to 7,000 delegates and alternates and up to 50,000 visitors.

Evening events will be held at the United Center, which served as the main site of the 1996 Democratic convention in Chicago. Daytime business will be conducted at McCormick Place, a source told ABC News.

“The 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago will welcome people from across the nation to an unforgettable event,” Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said in a statement. “Our great global city and its diverse communities, unparalleled hospitality, and world-renowned venues show off the best of America and its people represent the heart of our country.”

The Republican Party will host its 2024 convention in nearby Milwaukee.
