Chicago Reaches 70% Vaccination Threshold

The Lightfoot administration said Monday that more than 70% of adults over 18 have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. In addition, more than 50% of adolescents 12-17 have received at least one dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

“We have a lot to be proud of,” said Allison Arwady, M.D., Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health. “Thank you to our team – all of our staff, providers, and community partners who have done the work, helped us reach residents across the city and connect them with their COVID-19 vaccine.”

However, with the number of new cases rebounding nationally as well as locally, the Chicago Tribune reported Monday that some area employers are postponing a return to the office. “The fight is not over, and we encourage those who have been vaccinated to talk to their family and friends that still haven’t,” said Arwady.
