Chicago Ranks No. 4 Among World’s Data Center Markets
Chicago ranks fourth globally among data center markets, behind Northern Virginia, Silicon Valley and Dallas, according to Cushman & Wakefield’s global Data Center Market Comparison. The metro area’s high ranking is in keeping with its longstanding status as “a key connectivity hub in the middle of the country,” said Alex Smith, vice chair with Cushman & Wakefield’s Chicago office.
Nearly 50 megawatts of assorted projects are under construction across Chicago itself, and in key suburbs such as Elk Grove Village, Cushman & Wakefield reported. The city ranks among the top 10 in fiber density of the 1,162 markets reviewed.
Moreover, Smith said, “we’ve definitely seen a recent boost over the past year with the announcement of incentives available for the data center industry from the State of Illinois.” Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the incentives into law this past June.
