Chicago Ranks High Among Office Markets: CushWake

The City of Broad Shoulders shows its strength in a comparison of the nation’s 25 largest office markets. Cushman & Wakefield said Chicago ranked high in an examination of the five key factors in attracting and retaining office occupiers: economic growth, population makeup, transportation options, costs, and commercial real estate fundamentals.

The city’s gross metropolitan product (GMP) is the third largest in the country at $497.3 billion. Chicago is one of the most diversified economies in the nation and home to more than 400 major corporate headquarters, including 36 in the Fortune 500.

Cushman & Wakefield noted that Chicago is also home to a huge talent pool and a strong roster of well-regarded educational institutions, including two of the world’s top business schools. Moreover, Chicago continues to represent the “bang for your buck” compared to other U.S. office markets, even as asking rents have increased 1.5% year over year.
