Chicago Ranks High Among Nation’s Best Cities

New York may dominate in Resonance Consultancy’s ranking of America’s best large cities, but Chicago tops all others in terms of economic, social and livability factors. The New York-based consulting firm issued its evaluation of metro areas with  greater than one million populations, as well as smaller cities earlier this week.

The second-ranked Windy City does well in areas including nightlife and affordability, according to Resonance. The firm cited a 2017 Redfin report which found that more than half the 25 affordable neighborhoods across 80 major markets were in the Chicago metro area.

However, the city takes the lead in the so-called Product category, which includes the “hardware” subcategories of airport connectivity, convention centers, museums, university ranking and sports teams. “The hardware of a city often takes years to build and is expensive to maintain, but it is vital for urban exploration and empowering visitors to a city,” according to Resonance.
