Chicago Mandates Quarantine on Travel from States with COVID Surges
The Lightfoot administration imposed a 14-day quarantine requirement for travelers entering Chicago from states experiencing a surge in new COVID-19 cases. The order issued by the city’s Department of Public Health (DPH) applies to both inbound travelers and Chicagoans returning from these states, and took effect at 12:01 a.m. on Monday.
“For close to six months now, we’ve been laser-focused on containing this virus, limiting infections and ultimately saving lives, and we’ve made tremendous progress,” said DPH Commissioner Allison Arwady. “That remains our focus today, and this order is another important measure in helping us further contain the spread of COVID-19 in Chicago.”
The order follows a similar measure taken jointly last month by the governors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. It covers travel from Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.
