Chicago Foreclosures Drop Below 9,000

Fewer than 9,000 Chicago foreclosures were in progress in January 2018, according to Attom Data Solutions. That marked the first time since at least early 2013 that milestone for homes has been reached, according to the Lucid Realty “Getting Real” blog.

Foreclosures have been declining since February 2013, when more than 37,000 homes were in the process. Foreclosure activity in the auction, bank repossession and default categories all have been declining and are near recent lows. Overall, January foreclosures were down 25.3% from January 2017.

Attom Data Solutions also reported that nationally, foreclosure activity was down for the 28th straight month. Defaults were down 10.5% year-over-year, while repossessions declined by 17.3% and auctions fell 20.3%.
