Chicago Bears Mull Soldier Field Exit with Arlington Raceway Bid

The Chicago Bears have put in a bid to acquire Arlington International Raceway, the NFL franchise confirmed Thursday. The move could potentially lead to a relocation from the Bears’ longtime home at Soldier Field on Chicago’s South Side.

“It’s our obligation to explore every possible option to ensure we’re doing what’s best for our organization and its future,” Bears president Ted Phillips said in a statement. “If selected, this step allows us to further evaluate the property and its potential.”

In a rebuttal, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot tweeted that the team’s lease at Soldier Field runs until 2033. “In addition, this announcement from the Bears comes in the midst of negotiations for improvements at Soldier Field,” Lightfoot said. “This is clearly a negotiating tactic that the Bears have used before.”

She added that as a longtime Bears fan, “I am committed to keeping the ‘Chicago’ name in our football team.”
