Chicago-Based Potbelly Sandwich Shop Continues Expansion

A little more than two weeks after Chicago-based Potbelly Sandwich Shop revealed its first Central Florida location, an executive for the growing sandwich chain indicated growth in the state was expected to continue.

“Florida is a hotbed for us,” said John Beckley, Potbelly’s vice president of franchise development, adding that the company is “100%” looking for additional franchisees in the Orlando market, reported the Chicago Business Journal.

The growth of the popular sandwich chain, which is a subsidiary of parent company Potbelly Corp. creates important jobs, as each new Potbelly Sandwich Shop represents an initial investment of several hundred thousand dollars and typically employs 20-30 people.

The chain currently has 425 shops across 32 states, including 44 in the Chicago area, with plans to grow to as many as 2,000 locations by 2032. Potbelly first became a publicly traded company with an initial public offering in October 2013.
