Chevron shuttering CA HQ, offering moves to Houston

Chevron Closing CA HQ, Offers Moves to Houston

The nearly 150 year old oil company stopped short of saying it was moving out of California. What it did say was that it was shuttering its sprawling San Francisco Bay Area headquarters and was looking at a smaller site in the state. In addition, the company said it would give the California employees the option of moving to its Houston offices and pay for their relocation costs. The company already has a large Houston presence, with over 6,000 workers, many at the former Enron building at 1400 Smith Street.

The announcement comes on the heels of numerous announcements of prominent firms leaving their headquarters for Texas. Tesla and Oracle the most prominent from California. Caterpillar and Allegheny Industries have recently announced they’re leaving their rustbelt towns for Dallas. California has a corporate tax rate of 8.8%. Texas has no corporate tax.
