Cheers! Texas Craft Breweries Expand by 990%
If you live in Texas and have an influx of microbreweries, brew pubs and restaurant breweries in your area, you aren’t imagining things. Research provided by CBRE noted that the number of craft breweries in the Lone Star State grew an amazing 990% between 2005-2017. Put another way, 20 craft breweries existed in 2005. By 2017, Texas had 218 breweries.
Microbreweries took the expansion prize, growing from three in 2005 to 152 in 2017 – a whopping 5,000% increase. Brewpubs were next, increasing by 450%. “Local is the new global—from its cottage roots before the 2008 recession, to its emergence as a niche beer category during the economic recovery, the Texas craft brew industry represents the spirit of this perspective,” said Robert Kramp, Director of Research & Analysis, CBRE.
And, since 2005, the amount of industrial and retail space occupied by craft brewers increased by 265%, to 4.8 million square feet statewide.
