Chase Files Plans for Supertall Midtown East HQ

JPMorgan Chase filed the initial building plans for a Midtown East headquarters, on the site of its existing offices at 270 Park Ave. The filing comes about two months after the City Council approved Chase’s plans to build a supertall tower, the first project to be approved under the Midtown East rezoning.

The plans filed with the New York City Department of Buildings represent a slight reduction from the 1,400-foot height Chase had said the new tower would reach. The DOB filing calls for a 1,322-foot tower, with about 1.9 million square feet of office space.

As a part of the project, Chase made a $42-million contribution to a public improvement fund in connection with its purchase of air rights from Grand Central Terminal. The financial services giant has begun demolishing the existing 270 Park, and expects to begin building its replacement in 2021.
