CenterPoint Breaks Ground on 170-Acre Port of Oakland Development
Oak Brook, IL-based CenterPoint Properties plans to commence work in October on CenterPoint Landing, a 170-acre industrial campus at the Port of Oakland. The initial phase will span 440,000 square feet, and is expected to deliver by summer 2020.
The $52 million facility will be constructed at Maritime and 14th streets in the heart of the Port. The property once served as an Army supply depot. CenterPoint’s development will be the first building at the campus.
The complex is envisioned as a cargo-handling facility that could change the trajectory of Port business. Currently a West Coast terminus for Transpacific trade vessels, Oakland could eventually double as a major freight distribution point. The Seaport Logistics Center campus will include roughly 27 acres of transloading space to allow shippers to move goods between trucks or trains.
