CBRE: Boston/Cambridge Remains Top Market for Life Sciences Research Talent

Boston and Cambridge remain the top markets for life sciences research talent in the United States, according to a recent analysis by CBRE.

The region’s leading position is attributed to its world-class universities, including Harvard and Boston University, and a workforce of over 36,450 life sciences research professionals. Boston’s concentration of talent extends across a compact area, making it a powerful cluster in the 450-mile life sciences corridor along the Northeast coast. Other notable markets in this corridor include Washington, D.C./Baltimore, New York/New Jersey, and Philadelphia.

Despite economic concerns, the number of life sciences researchers in the U.S. has increased by 87% over the past two decades, outpacing the 14% growth rate for all occupations. The resilience of the sector is attributed to sustained demand for research jobs, even during recessions and in a tight labor market.
