Casa Grande Site of 500-Acre Auto Manufacturer

Casa Grande, AZ, in Pinal County, will be the new home for Lucid Motors’ electric vehicle manufacturing facility. The site will eventually contain a 500-acre, $700 million plant, bringing 2,000 jobs to the area.

Lucid Motors of Menlo Park, CA indicated it wants its first luxury electric vehicles for sale in 2018. The company considers its competitors to be Mercedes, Audi and BMW, rather than Tesla Motors or Faraday. The company will begin hiring about 400 people next year to begin training.

Lucid studied more than 60 markets in 13 states before selecting Casa Grande. The main decision factors included a lot of shovel-ready land complete with rail access. Also important was the workforce; Casa Grande is midway between Phoenix and Tucson, and can pull from both metros. Groundbreaking is scheduled for mid-2017.
