The small town wanted them more than the big town. Carr Lane was lured to the suburb of Elgin with an incentives deal orchestrated by the Elgin Economic Development Corp., which provides the company $372,250 for land and closing costs in return for hitting certain benchmarks. Carr Lane will immediately be one of the biggest employers in Elgin, a city of roughly 11,350 about 25 miles northeast of Austin that’s becoming a manufacturing hub. Carr Lane has 75-80 employees.

The specialized parts manufacturing firm’s transition took work. Carr Lane makes more than 135,000 precisely-made parts for industries as varied as aerospace, agriculture and automation. The Austin Business Journal reports the company has invested $12 million into the new 50,000 square-foot building.

Carr Lane started construction in September and just got the keys to its new building.
