The Carnegie Deli served its last sandwich and closed at midnight, December 30. Featured in film and New York City lore for four decades, the deli drew visitors from across the country and around the world.

“The wait for a table yesterday was two hours,” according to a December 28 story at the Gothamist.

The Carnegie Deli will keep selling pastrami and other treats at its website, and continue to operate its bakery and meat-processing plant in New Jersey. There’s also licensed “Carnegie Deli” stores still selling the deli’s famous sandwiches at Madison Square Garden, The Mirage in Las Vegas, NV; Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, PA, and during the U.S. Open Tennis Championships in Flushing, Queens.
