Carlyle Divests Alexandria MF for $111M

Rockville, MD-based The Donaldson Group (TDG) and New York-based Angelo, Gordon & Co. acquired Cityside at Huntington Metro, a 569-unit apartment community in Alexandria, VA, for roughly $111 million. The property is comprised of four high-rise buildings built in 1968 and 1974 at 6034 Richmond Highway, near Old Town Alexandria.

The seller, an affiliate of The Carlyle Group, was represented by CBRE Capital Markets’ Bill Roohan, Bob Dean, Jonathan Greenberg, Tom Leachman, and Yalda Ghamarian. TDG and Angelo, Gordon are working with CBRE Debt & Structured Finance Group’s David Webb and Maxi Thiels Leachman to obtain financing that it expects to put in place shortly after closing on the acquisition.

TDG’s John Majeski says, “We have developed an intelligent, well-designed and cost-effective renovation” plan for the property that will touch on the lobby and leasing center, common areas and entryway, exterior façade, windows, balcony railings, landscaping, mechanical systems and interior units.
