Charlotte Link Apartment Cykel to be car-free

Car-Free Apartments to Open in Charlotte

The location of the Link Apartments Cykel is suitable for biking, which nudged the company into building a car-free apartment community. Link Cykel, set for move-in in September, will be at 539 State St. The development will offer direct access and proximity to uptown on the streetcar line and Stewart Creek Greenway.

Additionally, Grubb Properties says it costs $30,000 a spot to build a parking lot. The Charlotte Business Journal reports that by not building a parking garage, the company can offer middle-income tenants mid-level pricing. At Link Cykel, rent for half the units will be set at 80% of the area median income, with the rest at market rate.

The 104-unit apartment will allow tenants access to two large elevators and two sets of wide, sliding doors in the main bike room.

The property has studio and one-bedroom units. The project will also include a micromarket with snacks and provisions.
