Capital Bank Opens in West El Paso

Capital Bank opened a new branch on El Paso’s west side, replacing one it had closed several months ago, at 2800 N. Mesa St., near the University of Texas El Paso campus. The new branch is in La Villita on Mesa, a new shopping center at 6801 N. Mesa St. La Villita is anchored by the new Whole Foods Market.

The new branch is one of three Capital Bank branches in El Paso. The bank is owned by Strategic Bancorp, a four-year-old regional banking company founded by El Paso businessman Bill Sanders. Strategic Bancorp is planning to merge with Salina, KS-based Sunflower Financial to create a “super community bank.” The merger, which will close in Q1 2017, will yield $4 billion in bank assets, and 63 bank branches in five states.
