Cambridge Laboratory Facility Earns First Fitwel Life Science Certification

Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc.-owned 300 Technology Square, a laboratory facility on the firm’s Alexandria Technology Square campus in Cambridge, MA, has been recognized as the first-ever space to achieve a Fitwel Life Science certification. The certification program is operated by the Center for Active Design (CfAD).

300 Technology Square utilizes evidence-based design and operational strategies that support the physical, mental and social health of its occupants.

The Fitwel Life Science Scorecard — developed in strategic partnership with CfAD exclusively for Alexandria — is the first evidence-based healthy building framework tailored to requirements of the complex infrastructure and protocols for laboratory facilities.

The Fitwel Life Science Scorecard covers a range of key areas that promote occupant health and safety at Alexandria’s laboratory buildings, including indoor air quality, enhanced cleaning protocols and green practices, emergency preparedness, safety training, access to healthy food options, natural daylight and outdoor space and the promotion of active commuting.

About Lisa McDuffie

Lisa McDuffie arrives at ConnectCRE via REALTOR® world, where she served for nearly two decades as communications director for one of the nation’s largest REALTOR® organizations. She supported two membership-elected presidents who were commercial real estate practitioners, and managed the communications initiatives of the organization’s commercial special interest group. When not following the latest commercial real estate news, Lisa is zeroed in on her charismatic off-the-track thoroughbred as she makes the transition from an utterly failed racehorse to a lovely show hunter.
