California Remains the Hub for AI Hiring, Tenant Demand

Although the surge in artificial intelligence (AI) helps drive tech employment and occupancy nationwide, California has the highest concentration of AI firms in the U.S., mainly in the San Francisco Bay Area, Cushman & Wakefield says in a new report. It follows that California companies consistently hire more AI-related employees than companies in any other state.

“California is a powerhouse for AI-related talent,” the report states. “Three California cities are in the top 10 MSAs for AI talent.”

Within California, hires in AI-related fields are concentrated in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and San Diego. In particular, AI-related jobs have grown 25% in the Los Angeles area, says Cushman & Wakefield.

The Bay Area also sees the greatest tenant demand at 2.5 million square feet, the report states. “Austin is the market with the second highest tenant demand, but it is largely concentrated with a single, large tenant requirement.”
