California Reinstates Modified Stay-Home Order as COVID-19 Persists
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Monday that California is closing again due to a continued surge in COVID-19 cases and the dwindling supply of available hospital beds. Effective immediately, California is closing some indoor business operations statewide and additional indoor business operations in counties on California Public Health’s monitoring list for three consecutive days.
The Governor said, “We’re moving back into a modification mode of our original stay-at-home order,” calling for a toggling between a more open economy and a shutdown. “COVID-19 is not going away anytime soon and Californians must adapt to new behaviors to slow the spread,” he said.
The order includes widespread rollbacks of indoor facilities across the entire state with additional restrictions placed on counties struggling with the virus. That includes 29 counties that were ordered to close gyms, houses of worship, hair salons, personal care services, indoor malls and offices for nonessential workers.
Indoor operations were closed in these sectors:
– Dine-in restaurants
– Wineries and tasting rooms
– Movie theaters
– Family entertainment centers (such as bowling alleys, miniature golf, batting cages and arcades)
– Zoos and museums
– Cardrooms
Additionally, bars, brewpubs, breweries, and pubs must close all operations both indoor and outdoor statewide, unless they are offering sit-down, outdoor dine-in meals. Alcohol can only be sold in the same transaction as a meal.
The closures will remain in effect until the State Public Health Officer determines it is appropriate to modify the order based on public health conditions.
