  • Tom Todd has joined Kidder Mathews as SVP in Silicon Valley. He brings more than 25 years of commercial real estate experience, specializing in tenant and landlord representation with a focus on office and R&D leases and sales. Todd began his career as a sales associate at CBRE, followed by more than two decades at Newmark in Silicon Valley, where he served as managing director. He has completed more than 700 transactions, totaling approximately $1 billion in value, 
  • IHP Capital Partners, a national residential real estate investment manager, appointed Mitch Pleis, former co-head of real estate at the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS), to its advisory board. Pleis recently retired from his senior leadership role at CalSTRS, one of the nation’s largest pension funds. He brings more than four decades of institutional real estate investment management experience to the board. 
  • Banyan Utility, headquartered in San Diego, has added Jeff Duerstock as VP of national sales. With more than 17 years of experience in the multifamily housing industry, Duerstock brings a wealth of knowledge and a strong track record of driving growth in multifamily solution products. 
  • Pasadena-based ExchangeRight, one of the nation’s leading providers of diversified real estate DST and REIT investments, announced that Thomas Gentry joined its strategic relations team as SVP of the Northeast region. Gentry will serve representatives, advisors, and their clients in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont and Maine. 
  • Orinda-based MacKenzie Realty Capital, Inc. named Kjerstin Hatch to the company’s board of directors and will also be a member of the audit, nominating and compensation committees of the Board. Hatch is the founder and a managing principal of Lapis Advisers, LP and has focused her career on special situation securities.  
  • Kat Taylor, co-founder and board chair of Beneficial State Bank in Oakland, has been named to Forbes’ inaugural Sustainability Leaders list. This is the first time that Forbes has honored leaders across industries who are combatting the climate crisis. Under Taylor’s board leadership, Beneficial State Bank has implemented several sustainability initiatives, including a lending program for renewable energy, sustainability entrepreneurs, net-zero building construction and climate crisis mitigation projects. 
  • Infrastructure consulting firm AECOM was awarded a contract to provide program management, design and engineering services to support the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s goal of transitioning its bus fleet to Zero Emission Buses. As one of the largest electric bus programs in the nation, this initiative will emphasize reduced greenhouse gas emissions and improved air quality while delivering high-quality services for Los Angeles County’s residents and visitors. 
  • San Francisco-based Zumper, North America’s largest privately owned rental marketplace, formed a partnership with Airbnb to market Airbnb-friendly rental communities directly on Zumper’s platform. All Airbnb-friendly apartments will receive a special badge and filter on Zumper, a first of its kind feature for any ILS.  
  • Ware Malcomb, an international design firm, said construction is complete on a new two-story administration building for the Chino Valley Unified School District. Ware Malcomb provided architecture, interior architecture and design, and branding services for the 60,000-square-foot build-to-suit project located at 13461 Romona Ave. in Chino. 
  • Full-service architecture firm AO recently completed Cogir of South Bay, a new luxury living community in Torrance offering amenities and apartments for independent seniors. The four-story independent senior living community offers 158 luxury apartments with various layouts including studio, one- and two-bedroom units. 
  • In response to the increasing number of people experiencing homelessness in El Segundo and the broader Los Angeles County region, the City of El Segundo launched the PATCHES Program (Proactive Approach to Combating Homelessness in El Segundo). PATCHES is a comprehensive initiative aimed at addressing homelessness with compassion, while also maintaining public safety and cleanliness across the community. The program uses a progressive enforcement model that prioritizes offering shelter and services before any enforcement action is taken.
