- CBRE has hired Mary Hines and Jennifer Vergara as vice chairs in its Life Sciences Practice in the San Francisco Bay Area. The duo specializes in tenant and landlord representation of life science across the Bay Area and are prominent figures in the commercial real estate industry locally and nationally. Hines and Vergara join CBRE from Newmark, where they were top producers. Notable clients include Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Gilead Sciences, Pliant Therapeutics, Denali Therapeutics, Arcus Biosciences and The Column Group, among others.
- Kidder Mathews added Kareem Barzegar, CCIM, CPM as an SVP in San Francisco. He brings more than 20 years of experience representing both tenants and landlords of office properties throughout the Bay Area. Before joining Kidder Mathews, Barzegar spent seven years as a broker with Avison Young. Over the course of his career, he has completed more than 500 leasing assignments.
- Project Management Advisors, Inc. (PMA), a provider of construction, project management and owners’ representative services, said Rhonda Rasmussen has joined the firm as the newest project director on the PMA Hospitality Sector team. With more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Rasmussen will oversee the firm’s efforts in expanding its presence in the western region, with a focus on luxury hotel and resort projects in markets such as California, Hawaii, Colorado and Nevada.
- JT Magen, a national construction firm specializing in preconstruction, construction management, design-build and general contracting, announced that veteran construction professionals Christina Karabatsos and Jeffrey Jones have joined the firm’s Los Angeles office as project managers. Karabatsos and Jones will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of JT Magen’s construction projects from pre-construction to close out, including planning, valuation and execution. They will work closely with clients, subcontractors and the internal team to ensure project success.
- The Building Industry Association of Southern California (BIASC) announced the 2024 BIASC Hall of Legends Class of Inductees, nominated by each BIA Chapter, during the annual Building Industry Show and Installation Gala in Temecula. The induction recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the building industry and have demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout their careers. The 2024 BIASC Hall of Legends Class of Inductees are as follows: Donna Deutchman, president & CEO, Homes4Families; Dr. Marilyn Ditty (Posthumous), founder, Age Well Senior Services, Inc.; Ted Dutton, pounder, Dutton & Associates, Inc.; Patrick Fuscoe, pounder & Chairman, Fuscoe Engineering; Wes Keusder, president, Keusder Homes; Steve Murow, pounder, Murow Development Consultants; Jeff Roos, regional president, Lennar; Borre Winckel, Past BIA Riverside County Chapter Executive Officer.
- A San Francisco native and venture capitalist has committed $100 million to support the rejuvenation of the Upper Fillmore Street commercial corridor, the neighborhood in which he grew up. Neil Mehta, founder of Greenoaks Capital, is the sole backer of the Upper Fillmore Revitalization Project, a revitalization fund that has already purchased the historic Clay Theater, an adjacent building and several other properties on Fillmore Street this year. The goal of Mehta and the Upper Fillmore project is to reverse the long decline of this historic neighborhood by purchasing and restoring properties and offering below-market leases.
- Los Angeles-based Arixa Capital, a private real estate lender and alternative investment manager, achieved a new quarterly record, surpassing $440 million in loan originations in the third quarter of 2024.To support its ongoing growth, Arixa is welcoming two experienced hires to lead expansion in key markets. Lauren George will spearhead Arixa’s presence in Austin, TX, and Adam Kehl will focus on growth efforts in Phoenix, AZ.
- Griffin Capital Company, a multifamily-focused real estate investment firm with $4 billion in assets under management, is seeking an SVP, Acquisitions in El Segundo, CA. The SVP will lead the multifamily acquisition activity for the western half of the U.S., which includes the acquisition of existing assets and working with development partners to underwrite and acquire development sites. - CapRock Partners, a private industrial real estate investment/development firm with a 30MSF development pipeline/portfolio, is seeking a VP, Asset Management in Newport Beach, CA. The VP will oversee a portfolio of industrial assets in the West and will be responsible for driving and executing leasing transactions in the portfolio while maintaining positive relationships with tenants. - Pacific Retail Capital Partners launched its ‘M-All Hands on Deck’ campaign, an initiative designed to support communities in need across the country. PRCP has selected several nonprofit humanitarian organizations actively involved in disaster relief efforts to serve as the beneficiaries of all funds raised this year. The campaign’s inaugural activation will be focused on providing critical assistance to those affected by Hurricane Helene and will be spearheaded by Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh, NC.
