California Lifts Regional Stay At Home Order
California is slowly starting to emerge from the most dangerous surge of this pandemic, representing the light at the end of the tunnel officials have been seeking, said California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly. Officials with the California Department of Public Health ended the Regional Stay at Home Order Monday, lifting the order for all regions statewide – including the three regions still under the order: San Joaquin Valley, Bay Area and Southern California.
Four-week ICU capacity projections for these three regions are above 15%, the threshold that allows regions to exit the order. The state supported California’s hospitals in slowing the surge in cases and hospitalizations. And, the administration of vaccines to healthcare workers has meant fewer are falling ill to the virus, which helps keep staffing levels more stable. Finally, the surge after the December holidays did not overwhelm the healthcare system to the degree feared.
Nearly all the counties exiting the Regional Stay at Home Order are in the Purple or most restrictive tier. Services and activities such as outdoor dining and personal services may resume immediately with required modifications, subject to additional local restrictions.
