California Feels Impact of Government Shutdown
The partial U.S. government shutdown is rippling across the country with varying degrees of impact. The personal-finance website WalletHub examined how the 21st closure for business since 1976 is playing out so far.
The report entitled, “States Most & Least Affected by the 2019 Government Shutdown,” offers some hard data to all the rhetoric. WalletHub compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia, comparing five key metrics, ranging from each state’s share of federal jobs, to federal contract dollars per capita, to the share of families receiving food stamps.
Impact findings for California include: (1=Most Affected, 25=Avg.):
38th – Share of Federal Jobs
18th – Federal Contract Dollars Per Capita
5th – Real Estate as a Percentage of GSP
40th – Access to National Parks
36th – % of Families Receiving SNAP (Food Stamps)
