California Awards $342M in Film and TV Tax Credits

Fifty-two film projects have been selected for the latest round of tax credits under California’s Film and Television Tax Credit Program, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Tuesday. The projects, representing both studio-backed and independent productions, are receiving a total of $342 million in tax credits and are projected to inject more than $1.4 billion into the state’s economy.

The projects range from an untitled third Jumanji movie starring Dwayne Johnson to 42 lower-budget independent titles. Across 38 of the projects, there will be a total of 511 shooting days outside the Los Angeles area. Newsom expanded the tax credit program’s annual funding from $330 million to $750 million earlier this year.

“With 52 new projects, we’re seeing storytelling thrive once again, creating thousands of jobs and supporting local businesses in communities across the state,” said Colleen Bell, Director, California Film Commission. “California’s film industry is not just rebounding; it’s redefining what’s possible.”
