Cali Buyer Nabs 115-Year-Old Commerce Building
Private equity real estate firm Harris Bay acquired the more-than-century old Commerce Building in downtown San Antonio for $2.8 million. The California buyer struck a deal with private Hawaiian investor George Newton for the 39,381-square-foot property on 314 E. Commerce St. Harris Bay is planning a mixed-use redevelopment for the eight-story building.
Upon the rehab completion, the building will offer office space, along with ground-floor retail and a restaurant. Harris Bay founder Jake Harris said the renovations will match the classic style of the building, which first opened in 1902 as home to the Alamo National Bank. The Commerce Building currently houses offices.
