Café Calaveras to Open in Vulcan Batik Apartment Building

Café Calaveras announced the opening of its first brick-and-mortar café at Vulcan Real Estate’s Batik apartment building in the heart of Seattle’s Yesler neighborhood.

After years of pop-ups on Seattle’s Pier 62, Cafe Calaveras will open its first store in a 1,218-square-foot space at 860 Yesler Way. Cafe Calaveras is taking over the spot formerly occupied by Tougo Coffee, which closed in 2024. Blake Taylor, of West Coast Commercial Realty, brokered the deal for the cafe, reported the Puget Sound Business Journal.

“Everything I had came from my community, borrowed ice chests, donated coffee, and that sense of togetherness shaped everything I’ve built,” said the founder, Clarissa Griego. “Clarissa brings something truly special to Yesler,” said Geralyn Vannoy, Director of Commercial Marketing and Leasing at Vulcan Real Estate. “Her vision, heart, and commitment to community shine through in every detail of Café Calaveras.”
