BXP Unveils Reston Town Center’s First Solar Canopy

BXP has announced plans for a 1.3 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) onsite renewable energy system at Reston Town Center in Reston, Virginia. The system, mounted above the Green Garage, is a partnership between BXP, a Reston Town Center client and Ameresco. It’s expected to produce 1.5 million kWh of renewable energy annually, avoiding 450 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. The energy will be used locally at Reston Town Center.

“With great partners like our client and Ameresco we can transform a parking garage into a megawatt scale solar energy plant,” said Ben Myers, senior vice president of sustainability at BXP. “This project delivers social, economic, and environmental benefits over a long term by providing zero emissions clean power, competitive energy pricing, and covered parking for clients and visitors at the Town Center.”

BXP’s sustainability efforts have been recognized by industry groups, including awards for Best ESG Program, ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year, and Green Lease Leader. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
