Builders Celebrate Rockaway Rezoning

Industry leaders praised the Downtown Far Rockaway Redevelopment Project, approved by the New York City Council September 7, 2017. It the first rezoning of the Far Rockaway neighborhood in Queens since 1961.

“The successful rezoning of Far Rockaway is a big win for the local community, which will benefit from hundreds of millions of dollars in public and private sector investments in infrastructure, new public spaces and housing for all income levels,” said Carlo A. Scissura, president and CEO, New York Building Congress.

It’s just the second neighborhood rezoning by the de Blasio Administration to be be approved by the New York City Council, along with the East New York Neighborhood Plan.
