Bryan/College Station Tops List of Renter Cities
Bryan/College Station, home to Texas A&M University, also is tops when it comes to household renting activity. Out of 21 predominantly renter cities, Bryan/College Station tops the list, with close to 60% of residents renting, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2015 American Community Survey.
Jim Gaines, chief economist with the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University, said the figure makes sense, especially because of the university. Additionally, “Texas quite honesty is a relatively low home ownership state, the reason being demographics, the young people,” he told KBTX-TV.
The high renting activity means there are more renters than properties on the market. Brad Clinton with At Home Properties said “it seems like we can’t get stuff on the market fast enough,” with both investors buying rental houses and retirees buying new builder homes.
