Pathways to knock down Deerfield Beach plaza for supermarket

Broward Co Shopping Plaza Converting to Supermarket

Pathway Ventures plans to knock down a Deerfield Beach strip center and build a grocery store on the site. The developer wants to demolish a one-story, 25,039-square-foot retail and office building at 2301 W. Sample Road in Deerfield Beach. They already have an Aldi supermarket signed up once the new store gets built.

The South Florida Business Journal reports the German supermarket chain signed a 20-year lease for the site in January 2022, which includes six five-year-long options to renew. Six days after the lease was signed, Pathway obtained a $11 million mortgage to build the Aldi from Bank of America. Pathway Ventures paid $11 million for more than 17 acres of land along Sample Road in 1998. The 19,432-square-foot grocery store will use up 1.9 acres on the site.

Aldi, which also owns the Trader Joe’s brand, acquired 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores across the U.S. from Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers in August.
