Breathing New Life into Historic Herald Examiner Building
A partnership between The Hearst Corporation and New York-based Georgetown Companies is transforming the iconic Los Angeles Herald-Examiner building into a modern mixed-use workplace. In addition to 100,000 square feet of creative office space, the building will feature ground-floor retail and restaurant space along Broadway, 11th and a newly created paseo.
Architecture firm Gensler is working to preserve the 103-year-old building’s historic nature, while paying homage to the luxe glamour of its Julia Morgan design. Vacant since the late 1980s, the five-story adaptive reuse project is expected to be completed later this year.
The historic building features irreplaceable finishes, soaring ceiling heights, operable leaded windows and saw tooth skylights. The site is located at the confluence of the Historic Core, South Park, and the Fashion District.
