3 NYC Casino Proposals Get Nod from State Board

The New York State Gaming Facility Location Board on Monday recommended that Bally’s Bronx, Resorts World New York City and Metropolitan Park receive gaming licenses. The recommendations now go before the state’s Gaming Commission, which will make the final decision.

The casino projects, all located in New York City outside Manhattan, were the only three remaining after MGM Empire City withdrew its bid and the Community Advisory Committee process resulted in half the applicants receiving a thumbs-down vote from their respective boards. Heavy hitters including SL Green Realty Corp. and Silverstein Properties were among the contenders that were voted down.

In a statement, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said Monday, “From the moment that three downstate casino licenses were authorized in the 2022 State Budget, I have been clear: any approved project must provide real benefits to its community and have sustainable economic plans. I am grateful to Chair [Vicki] Been and the Gaming Facility Location Board for their careful review of the applications according to these high standards.

“The three projects approved today promise to unlock billions in funding for the MTA and create tens of thousands of jobs. It is critical that they keep those promises. I look forward to the Gaming Commission’s review of the Board’s recommendations in the weeks ahead.”
