Boutique Hotel Headed for the Heights in Houston
The Houston Heights is one of Houston’s oldest neighborhoods, founded as a utopian community in the 1890’s that just happens to be 23 feet higher than the rest of the town, hence the Heights. It has restaurants, parks and Victorian homes, but few, if any hotels. Wood Lane Partners is going forward with The Daphne, a 51-key hotel project, which will incorporate some of that Victorian flair. It’s Wood Lane’s first try at a hotel project.
A public filing indicates Wood Lane Partners plans to spend $24 million on the project, nearly $500,000 a room. It will include a single-story retail component, an indoor lounge area and an outdoor cabana and pool terrace. BlanchardA+D is listed as the project architect, and Austin-based Bunkhouse Hotels has been chosen to manage the property. The developers say they’ll break ground later this year and hope to wrap up construction in 2024.
