Mighty Equities seeking OK for Montrose Hyde Park Hotel

Boutique Hotel Developer Pursuing Montrose Site

It’s still early, but if developer Mighty Equities gets its way, a new boutique hotel may go in Houston’s hopping Montrose area. Mighty Equities hopes to get approval from the Houston Planning and Zoning Commission for a 52-key, seven-story hotel. The Houston Business Journal reports plans indicate the Hyde Park Hotel would feature 25,000 square feet of food, beverage and entertainment options and a pool.

A Houston promotional site touts Montrose as a pocket of eccentricity and diversity in the heart of the city that never ceases to entertain. Developed in 1911, the four-square-mile area has a slew of newcomer restaurants, cocktail bars, and art galleries.

The company is also seeking permission to develop the hotel in an area where over 50% of the parcels surrounding the hotel are residential in use.

During a July 27 meeting on the Houston Planning and Development Commission, a decision whether to approve the requested variances was deferred for two weeks, until the commission’s Aug. 10 meeting.
