Boston Ranks Top 10 Most Climate-Resilient Cities in North America

Boston has emerged as a front-runner in climate change resilience, with initiatives that enhance sustainability and attract real estate occupants even amid climate risks. according to a new analysis from CBRE.

Other North America cities showing strong climate resilience include Austin, Denver, Montreal, New York, Ottawa, San Francisco, Toronto, Washington, D.C., and Winnipeg. The cities have committed to carbon neutrality or net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, bolstering renewable energy utilization and implementing adaptation and mitigation strategies.

The study evaluated factors such as emissions-reduction targets, policy frameworks, retrofitting costs, vulnerability to climate-related disasters, green building presence, and more. “The cities that take the lead on sustainability today will have a competitive edge as the economy shifts to a low carbon, more sustainable future,” said Rob Bernard, chief sustainability officer, CBRE.
