Boston Global, UTC $3B MXU Site Demo Underway

Be sure to check out and register for Connect Apartments, coming to L.A. on September 15.

Demolition work is underway on Boston Global Investors’ and United Technologies Corp.’s proposed $3-billion mixed-use development in Canoga Park, CA. The former 46-acre Rocketdyne Propulsion & Power plant site in Uptown Warner Center is envisioned as a “sustainable urban neighborhood.”

Conceptual plans by HOK architects encompass an urban village featuring a mix of high-rise and mid-rise buildings. Plans call for nearly 4,000 residences, 1.2 million square feet of office space, 200,000 square feet of retail space, 155,000 square feet of hotels, 310,000 square feet of cultural and civic amenities, 240,000 square feet of assisted living facilities, and a five-acre central park.

An environmental cleanup of the property will include asbestos and soil removal, and disposal of decades of contaminated concrete. A more than 10-year development timeline is expected, once final approvals are secured.
