Bond Package Means Engineering Building Completion
The University of Alaska Fairbank’s board of regents has approved a $37.5 million bond package to complete the school’s engineering building. This comes as good news for the engineering students at UAF, who saw the building put on hold last year, due to lack of funding.
The cost of the building’s construction was $111.6 million, but the Senate’s capital budget for 2015 didn’t include the funds necessary for completion. At the time, Doug Goering, Dean of UAF’s College of Engineering and Mines, said the new building was necessary because the number of engineering graduates from the school had more than doubled in the past decade.
With the funding, construction can proceed. The building, which was anticipated to open last year, now has a scheduled spring 2018 delivery.
