Boeing to Move Space Headquarters to Florida
Aerospace company Boeing plans to relocate the headquarters of its Space and Launch division from Arlington, VA to Titusville, FL. Space and Launch is a division of Boeing Defense, Space & Security.
Florida is already home to Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Patrick Air Force Base. In addition, the company is enhancing its focus on mission integration and launch system operations, in collaboration with Air Force partners nearby at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and the 45th Space Wing at Patrick Air Force Base. The CST-100 Starliner commercial spacecraft is also preparing for two flight tests later this year, ahead of operational missions to the International Space Station starting in 2020.
The announcement comes as the Trump administration is aiming to return humans to the moon by 2024. Boeing is building the rocket, the Space Launch System, that NASA plans to use for that mission. Boeing is also developing a spacecraft called the Phantom Express that would be able to fly to orbit 10 times in 10 days.
