San Antonio's Scobey Complex to get redo

Boarded-Up San Antonio Industrial Facility Closer to Revitalization

The VIA Metropolitan Transit board will soon get a term sheet from the winning bidder of the redevelopment project. The redevelopment of the Scobey Complex, an abandoned storage center on San Antonio’s westside, is starting to see some momentum. The DreamOn Group won a bid for the project in 2021 and hopes to present a viable plan for the project, “This is really a catalytic project for the west side…one thing we really recognize is the need to activate this building,” said DreamOn’s Rene Garcia.

Garcia says his plans consist of 32,000 square feet of retail space, 81,000 square feet of residential space, 26,500 square feet of office and 27,500 feet of storage. There are additional plans for two-story lofts.

The VIA purchased the property, which is close to its headquarters, for $5.2 million in 2017. If VIA approves his plans, the developer says he can get underway by the end of 2023 and take 18 months to complete.
