BMO Headquarters Tower Breaks Ground Near Union Station

Riverside Investment & Development and BMO Financial broke ground Friday on a 50-story tower that will serve as BMO’s U.S. headquarters. Now known as BMO Tower, the 1.4-million-square-foot project across from Union Station is slated to open in 2022.

“It is our aspiration that BMO Tower becomes part of the architectural fabric of Chicago,” said Riverside CEO John O’Donnell. “We are grateful that both BMO and our newest tenant, Chapman and Cutler, have chosen this building for their new headquarters.” Riverside is developing the tower with Convexity Partners.

“This project will activate a prime site that has been largely underutilized next to Chicago’s busiest commuter station,” said James Goettsch, chairman of Goettsch Partners, which is designing the tower. It’s part of a larger redevelopment of Union Station.

Concurrently, BMO pledged $10 million to the Lightfoot administration’s INVEST South/West initiative through the United Way of Metro Chicago.
